On a Trip

If you are planning on coming on trips, you need to join the club. This means you'll get all the emails we send out with the necessary information. Below is anoverview of how trips work, but it does vary a bit, so make sure you read that email! Before the trip make sure you have all the kit you need. Have a look at the What You Need section for a list of walking kit. You generally need to bring breakfast and lunch for 2 days of walking and often a sleeping bag. We'll let you know in the trip email. A few bevvies for the evenings are a good idea as our accomodation is not usually conveniently located for pubs and shops. If you need to borrow some kit please email us early so we can sort this out for you. We don't lend boots - you will need your own. If you have any questions, please email us!

We leave at about 4PM on the Friday, meeting in the Sports Centre Car Park. Try and arrive promptly so we don't end up in horrendous traffic. There's a late bus for anyone with late lectures, let us know if you need to be on this bus. From here we travel by minibus to our destination, stopping off at a chippy en route for food. Once everyone's arrived and grabbed a bed we sort out who's doing what the next day. Walk leaders will give a brief overview of what they're planning and then you decide what you'd like to do. We're quite flexible and can change what we do depending on demand and weather etc. We always have a range of walks available, and there is usually at least one option to do some scrambling.

On both Saturday and Sunday we do day walks, returning on Saturday night to the hut so that you can thaw out, dry off yourselves and your clothes (maybe!) and enjoy a relaxed and sociable evening. We cook a big communal meal and pudding, which ensures no-one goes hungry! Menus this term have included Shepherd's Pie and Apple Crumble, and Sausage Casserole followed by Sticky Toffee Pudding.

On the Sunday we set off back to campus after finishing the days routes. We don't usually stop for food, but can do, depending on the time. We usually get back between 8 and 10 PM.

Signing Up

signup location

To signup you will need a pen. Write down your details on the signup sheet. We prefer payment by cheque. Make your cheque payable to UWSU, and write your name and "Warwick Mountains - Trips" on the back. If you can't pay by cheque the trip organiser is usually about for an hour or so to collect cash. This will be mentioned in the trip email.

Signup sheets usually go up on the club noticeboard on the monday before the trip the trip (e.g. Monday week 2 for a trip on the weekend of week 3). You will be notified via email when the sign up sheet will go up. The noticeboard is in SUHQ. You enter SUHQ from the outside entrance, just to the right of Costcutters, head up the first set of stairs, turn back on yourself and head up the second set. Then you should see the view shown on the right.
